Think of the qualities of a great city - fun, space, clean air, nature, culture - and Reykjavik has them in spades. It has the features of a modern, forward-looking society which are complemented by a close connection to beautiful nature. The population of the Reykjavik Capital Area is about 200,000. Reykjavik is spread across a peninsula with a panoramic view of the mountains and the Atlantic Ocean on almost all sides.
In this time of the year when conditions are favorable you can see the Northern lights (Aurora borealis) glowing curtain of greenish yellow lights, dancing in the distance to a spectacular, multi-colored fusion stretching across the sky.
The world’s northernmost capital is framed by the majestic Mt. Esja, which keeps a watchful eye on the city, and the blue waters of Faxafloi Bay. On a sunny day, the mystical Snaefellsjokull glacier appears crystal-like on the western horizon, while mountainous moonscapes spread to the southeast.
The international volunteers will visit kindergartens in Reykjavik and introduce different cultures to the kids. One of the tasks of this workcamp is to prepare games, songs and materials for those visits and we kindly ask the participants to bring materials that we can use for the preparation. We will also participate in different types of activites in the centre of Reykjavik; this time of the year the city is usually full of life.
Project language: English
Age range: 18 and over

More information and enrollment: www.cadip.org/volunteer-in-iceland.htm

For volunteer opportunities in other countries please go to: www.cadip.org or give us a call: 617-502-0400 (US); 604-628-7400 (Canada)

Now through at least mid-April, we need an administrative assistant on a volunteer basis. This volunteer must be extremely computer-literate - especially efficient with Microsoft Office Suite programs and comfortable with database entry. Must be able to prioritize and meet specific deadlines, be attentive to the smallest details, be creative and, to use an overly-used cache, "think outside the box". The focus of responsibilities will be targeted on our primary fundraiser - our annual Tuxedo Cat Ball.

We would prefer someone who can work with us between 1 and 4:30 pm, at least three to four days per week. We are a relatively small (but growing!) nonprofit, with a great staff and the best volunteers that anyone could ask for. It is an informal environment, so jeans and t-shirt are just fine. Best of all, you would be an intregal part of a team that is working to save cats & kittens from homelessness and overpopulation. It's one of those places where you go home satisfied every night.

If you are interested in joining us, please send us an email at info@safehavenforcats.org, detailing your skills and capabilities, and how much time you could give us. Please put "ADMIN VOLUNTEER" in the subject line of your email so we can give it special attention. And thank you!

This must be carried out at night since the turtles do not go out of the ocean during the day (because of their natural predators, it is safer for the turtles get out of the ocean in the dark). In collaboration with local indigenous people from Colola, the volunteers will seek for the turtles and take care of the eggs and the baby turtles. Locals are very friendly and working with them is very pleasant as they explain to the group what to do.
We need very motivated volunteers who really want to get involved in the work for protection of the turtles and are willing to interact with the local people and their culture.
There are also some extra activities to be done with the local people in order to help improve the town such as setting names to the streets or helping to arrange a multi-purpose playground for the children, and maybe some cleaning tasks, but this depends on the volunteers' initiative. The local people are very open to participate in other activities and the volunteers can also propose their own initiatives, so your ideas are welcome.
Language: The official language of the project is English. Some Spanish would be appreciated.
Location: Colola is a small town located on the Michoacan State coast, between Maruata and La Placita towns. It's a remote place that offers an excellent opportunity to be close to nature, on a virgin beach, with no tourism around. The closest city is Tecoman at 200 kilometers, but other villages such as La Placita that are closer (45 minutes by bus) can offer Internet connection.

For more details, please visit: www.cadip.org/volunteer-in-mexico.htm or give us a call: 617-502-0400 (US); 604-628-7400 (Canada)

This project is part of CADIP's International Volunteer Program: www.cadip.org/workcamps.htm

General rules and conditions for participation on our workcamp projects: www.cadip.org

Like in the neighbouring countries where they also live, they face in Thailand strong difficulties to be recognised and to value their particularities. The AFECT organisation contributes since 1981 to the defense of their rights, youth empowerment, elders support and cultural preservation and study. The volunteers will learn about their culture and problematic situation and contribute to AFECT projects and the daily life of the Akha villages.
The main objective of the project is cultural exchange between the volunteers and the local villagers but the participants of the project will also practically work in the communities doing different kinds of support and development works, like renovation of some community spaces or field works and farming with the villagers. The exact nature of the work will depend on the needs of the village at the time of the project.
Study theme: The volunteers will learn about the AFECT campaigns and discover the Akha culture, lifestyle, particularities and problematic situation in Thailand from the inside and from Akha people themselves. An introduction to Akha and Thai language is foreseen.
Special requirements: No special profile is required. Nature lovers, ethnology fans and human rights activists will be particularly interested in this project. Adaptability is required from the participants.
Age range: 18 and over
Project language: English
Leisure time: The free time will be organised according to the weather and the actuality of the communities but in general it will be essentially spent in the community. The volunteers will have the chance to learn about Akha cuisine, massage and specific handicraft. They might have the opportunity to attend traditional Akha ceremonies and events (like the principal Harvest celebration in March). If the weather permits it, trekking in the hills can also be foreseen.
New years Eve, according to the Thai Buddhist calendar takes place in April. The volunteers in the April group will have the great chance to attend the ceremonies and festivities in the village with the local population.
Accommodation: The volunteers will be hosted by the villagers in the communities where they will work. The conditions will be the same as for the Akhas themselves: very basic compared to urban Thailand, but very authentic. Do not expect occidental luxuries in any case.
Location: The project will be held in the Chiang Rai region (North-west Thailand) and the surrounding mountains all the way to the Golden Triangle borders, maybe one of the most beautiful locations in Thailand! The influence of the hill tribes and nearby Burma, Laos and China shapes the culture here.

For more details and enrollment, please visit: www.cadip.org/volunteer-in-thailand.htm or give us a call:
 617-502-0400

 604-628-7400

For volunteer opportunities in other countries: www.cadip.org
