<![CDATA[The new highest tier is 4.09 per 1000 gallons as reported in the news. A typical water bill is about 60 dollars every two months for about 50-60 gallons a day. Been stable that way for about a year for me. This is an average for modest water usage without lawn watering, sometimes more, sometimes less. Yes, I shower every day and wash clothes at home. It also includes all the basic minimum charges for stormwater, sewer, solid waste, etc. It's plenty of water for one person unless they leave faucets on all the time. This bill would be at the threshold the limit of the new low tier of 3000 gallons a month. So now we can figure out what your new bill would be. Let's switch channels now and say you have four people, at a reasonable non-conserving average of 260 a day. With the new rate of 4.09 per thousand, your extra 200 gallons a day over the basic water/sewer bill of 60 (above) above comes out to about 12000 more gallons for two months, or a whopping extra 49 bucks a bill at the highest tier of 4.09. making your bill 109 bucks for 4 people. 27 bucks and change per person. Cheap. Lets say you are doubling reasonable water usage, using 520 gallons each per day, or 125 gallons per day per person. Your extra gives you 27,600 gallons over the basic usage (above) at the higher tier. This adds 110.00 to your bill, making it about 170.00 or 42 bucks per person. What a deal. Hardly discrimination. More like reverse discrimination against single person households. Ok, lets assume you water your lawn. Single, family of four, family of 10. According to john deere landscaping, a single acre of lawn needs 25,000 gallons of water for a 1" soaking. So lets use a 1/8 acre lawn, irrigated once a week, for two months with a 1" soaking (8 times, 1/8 of an acre), is 25000 gallons, or about as much water as a family of four overconsuming water at 520 gallons a day. This lawn watering adds 102.25 to your bill regardless of the people in the household. This isn't about families, the math shows it's about wasting water on lawns. Or if you prefer the other viewpoint, lawn discrimination. Either way, get your story straight. Now you might argue that that basic 60 dollar bill includes things that aren't water service. This is true. But a family of four uses more of most of those things (sewer, solid waste) than a single person home, but at the same fixed price, so the per/person usage of these utilities are also cheaper for the multi person home. ]]>

<![CDATA[Raleigh�s Tiered Water Rates Discriminate Against Families Citizens of Raleigh, we need to act now before it is too late! The tiered water rate scheme the City of Raleigh intends to implement this summer is nothing less that government sponsored discrimination. How does it discriminate? Quite simply, it charges increasingly higher prices based on consumption without taking into account the number of people in a household. The City of Raleigh bills households based on gallons used. Under the new tiered rate scheme families will be charged as higher price as more water is consumed. The first tier will be based on a usage of 0-3000 per month. The higher priced second tier will be between 3001 to 7500 gallons per month. Our example: If a family of three is using 6,000 gallons of water per month, and a single resident next door is using 2500 gallons per month, the family of four is actually being more conservative using only 2000 gallons per person, but because they use more gallons overall, they are placed in the second tier and forced to pay a higher price per gallon. What can you do? -Educate yourself on the facts. -Question any data you are given and it�s source. (You�d be surprised how much information that�s used to support these tiered rate schemes is simply someone�s opinion.) -Go to the Raleigh City Council meetings and speak. Get your friends to go! -Got to every meeting and speak, not just one. (They expect to you speak and never see you again.) He loves you regardless of everything. It is sad that for some reason something has happened in your life and now you think He doesnt love you. You dont have a good grasp of scripture if you are thinking this way. Nothing that happens to you is a surprise to God and He does not take pleasure in allowing pain in your life. There is an excellent chance that He has allowed things in your life to draw you closer to Himself. Without Him we are all lost and destined for eternity without Him. God promises that ( for those who love Him and are saved ) He will use EVERYTHING for our good in our lives. God wastes nothing and if He wasnt planning for using it for our ultimate good He wouldnt allow it to happen at all. Horrible things happen to people and many times it takes a while to look back and see His hand at work. When we are going thru it we cant see it. Once you are thru it you can look back and see clearly how God was with you and working thru it. If you arent saved you should really consider giving the control of your life over to Him. Romans 10:9 is a good starting point. Ask Him to be the Lord of your life and He will not ever reject you. Condemnation is for Satan, conviction is from God. Dont listen to every thought you have and think they are all from God. Most of them are not. They are either your thoughts or "darts" from Satan. Either way you need to get into a good bible believing church so you can renew your mind with God's truth.
