Hello, I am a fifteen year old guitar player that has a special affection for the blues mostly, but am flexible to play just about anything. Favorite guitarists are Jack White and Eric Clapton, and I just want to get a tight, serious group together, play for fun, play some shows, practice, and have fun. I have interest in covers and original music. I am a dedicated musician, and practice productively every day. If you are around my age and share my interest, let me know! I want to go beyond practicing, as far as I can make it. Thank you!

I'm looking for female or male musicians to add to my band. I'm a singer. I have originals but I am looking to create more for my CD. I have a drummer, bass player and a guitarist. I need another guitarist and keyboardist. I sing jazzy R&B aka neo-soul. So if you are looking to add your own creativity into a project as well as play and have a good time, then this is the project for you.

All I ask is:

- you be committed and serious
- you catch on quick (don't worry - I do also)
- you don't bring personal issues to rehearsal/shows (no drug issues)
- you know and love your instrument like it was your child
- and you wanna have fun!

If you are familiar with a wide range of contemporary "jazzy R&B" that would be a HUGE plus since I also sing covers.

If interested, I'll give you more details but please only respond if there is an actual interest.

Thank you!!

Looking for a LEAD SINGER to front a Hard Rock band. Band does rock from 60's to Current. Consists of Rhythm Guitar, Lead Guitar, Bass and Drums. We would prefer a singer that plays the KEYBOARDS. Any additional instrument (including harmonica), would be a plus, but also can play percussion (Tamborine, shakers, etc) We would like to have about half of our material include keyboards. The others songs would be rockers where the lead singer can move around and have fun. We have some gigs lined up and would like to begin playing regularly at local bars/clubs. We have a potential location where we could be a house band as well.

We might consider a lead singer that plays guitar, (if keyboard singer/player not available) because one guitarist in the band can also play keyboard, so as long as we have the flexibility, it may be OK.

We have a permanent practice location in Apex with all equipment and practice 1-2 times a week. Band makeup is mid-late 40's. We'd like to gig 1-3 times per month around the Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Durham, CH, etc area at the local small bars.

Some examples of our cover Bands are Foo Fighters, Green Day, 3 Doors Down, Lenny Kravitz, Pearl Jam, Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, Beatles, Police, Pearl Jam and many more. We also have some original tunes and we would like to write and record more as well. With the addition of a keyboard/singer we would like to cover bands like Journey, Eagles, Billy Joel, Elton John, and other great 80's, 90's bands.

We'd like someone with decent range and personality with on stage presence. Male is preferred because of our music taste and range. We are not doing this for money, etc, but it is a hobby that we are all very committed to/and just enjoy playing. Summer is coming and we also will line up some party and outdoor gigs. If you are interested to try out, please contact Mike.

Question about Raleigh Music Scene

I lived in Nashville for 12 years, but grew up here and have been back here the last 8 years. I think you'll find Nashville to be much more music oriented than any place here. There are far more music clubs in a smaller radius and many more places that have music as their central focus. If you can't make it in Nashville, I'll go out on a limb and say you are going to have a very tough time here.

I can't say much about the Nashville music scene, though it seems pretty cool, but I've been around here long enough to have a good feel for the music scenes here in Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill/Carrboro.

-How receptive are the locals to original music? What about local radio?
The college radio scene has been excellent for both original music and/or local original music. WXYC, WXDU and WKNC all promote original music, and generally speaking the radio scene on the left end of the dial is as good as or better than most large metropolitan towns across the country.

The right venue is very receptive to original music. There are a few clubs in Raleigh and CH that have been here a long time and mainly focus on original music. Overall I would not say the RTP area is a hot bed for original music.

Cat's Cradle has been here for over 30 yrs, in various places in CH and CB The Cave is similar, though much smaller, but it's been around just about as long, if not longer: not the greatest sound system, but it's a relatively small space and I've seen many bands there w/o too many sound issues given the PA. Local 506 has been very attentive to original local music, as has Nightlight, the latter of which boasts some of the most eclectic and adventurous/avant-garde music in the area. Both have been very useful to local artists for most of this past decade. Both also have decent sound system, and L506 esp. works to have new bands play - yeah, that might be on sun-wed night, pass the hat, but if you're starting out, that's part of what starting out is about. Durham has also decent clubs/venues like the Duke Coffeehouse, plus the relatively new ones, like Broad Street, Pinhook and BCHQ, that show promise
Raleigh still seems to be to be struggling since the demise of Kings. Back when I lived in Chapel Hill and Carrboro, Kings was the only club I ever went to; living in Raleigh now, I'm seen and heard some good local shows, but it's not nearly as often as I was used to, and it makes me miss both Kings and the scenes in Durham/CH/CB. That said, I think Tir Na Nog local shows are often pretty good and Slim's occasionally have good shows as well. I haven't been to the Brewery in ages, though it was once pretty cool.

-Radio: If you are a local signed artist, you might get your stuff on the air, but mainly you are looking at internet radio or perhaps college stations at best. I would not count on having your stuff played on the radio.

As mentioned early here, have you really checked the left end of the dial? Internet radio is another great asset, but where do you think you're going to get yr start from the right of 92 on the FM dial? I hear unsigned artists and interviews w/such artists on all 3 of the aforementioned stations (WXYC, WXDU, and WKNC). I'm admitted biased b/c I think most 'commercial music' is almost anything but original, mostly ephemeral and thus will be forgotten in 5 years time.

Anyway, beyond the RDU area, Asheville has a pretty cool scene.

Lastly, you will find the same things here you do in Nashville. When I lived in Nashville it was plenty of country music, some classic rock, a lot of alternative. Here it might be top 40/beach that pays the best. (just saying). Anyway you slice it, the music business is finicky, very tough, not a money maker unless you have something people are willing to pay to see. If I were you, I'd stay in Nashville if the only reason you are moving here is music.

I could have missed it since I haven't been anchored here for more than a year, but most of the bands/artists that moved from elsewhere moved to Durham/CH/CB, at least those wanting to do original music. I don't know why Raleigh seems to lag behind.
I am a singer-songwriter who performs solo and with a backup band (upright bass, drum kit, lead electric guitar). I have been playing in North Carolina's triangle area and beyond (Durham, Raleigh, outside of NC, etc.) for two years, successfully booking my own shows. I've played at the Orange Peel, the Cat's Cradle, the Pour House, the Local 506, the Cave, Jack Sprat, etc., as well as festivals like Shakori Hills and Mountain Aid. Thanks to a loyal fan base and good press, we’ve sold out 250+ venues on multiple occasions. I’m looking for someone to help us take it to the next level and allow me to focus on the business of the band.

We are currently recording two studio albums at Overdub Lane Studios in Durham—one solo acoustic, and one full-band rock and roll. Post-recording, we’ll be looking for help getting into good venues and touring to promote the album.

We need someone who can help us make strategic bookings that will catch the public eye. We also need someone who can help us build a sustainable living playing gigs.

I guess you need to define what about Nashville makes it a PIA for gigging? That way we can compare apples to apples. I assume by your questions you are not willing to travel and want to play close to home? We have several bands from TN that play regularly here in RTP area.
You doing this fulltime or part time? Hobby or business?

To answer your questions from my perspective not knowing what you want to do:

-For those of you who have experience gigging in the area, what are the clubs like? Decent sound systems? What are the entry-level rock clubs?
There are good clubs in the area with top of the line sound systems; however there are many places where music is the backdrop (restaurants, etc) and those systems can be average at best.
Good clubs are hard to get into here unless you have a name/following. That is no different than any city really. If you are good and play stuff people like, you'll play. If average & don't play what people like, you'll have a hard time.
-Entry level rock clubs?
Please define. There are many small clubs in the surrounding area, especially if you want to look at 2 hours radius around RTP.

-How receptive are the locals to original music? What about local radio?
The right venue is very receptive to original music. There are a few clubs in Raleigh and CH that have been here a long time and mainly focus on original music. Overall I would not say the RTP area is a hot bed for original music.
-Radio: If you are a local signed artist, you might get your stuff on the air, but mainly you are looking at internet radio or perhaps college stations at best. I would not count on having your stuff played on the radio.

-Do the local jams bring good players? Or is it Cletus grinding on his Boss metal zone?
Both, but if you are really "good" you normally are already on the road and not playing jams.
-What is the talent pool of sidemen like in the area?
Plenty of players in the area but only you can quantify and qualify as you audition.

Should I focus more CH or Raleigh?
-Sounds like you only want to play next to your house??? Musicians travel.

Lastly, you will find the same things here you do in Nashville. When I lived in Nashville it was plenty of country music, some classic rock, a lot of alternative. Here it might be top 40/beach that pays the best. (just saying). The answer to your question can be summed-up by the old adage:

"The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence."

R/D/CH is a great place to live. It's even a great place to make music. But my guess is that there are far more musicians renting u-hauls and heading west to Nasheville, instead of the other way 'round. YMMV.

I'm thinking about relocating from Nashville to RDU. The problem with Nashville is that gigging is an enormous pain in the ass.

If you're not into country, covers, or Nickelback-style rock, the surrounding region is a total wasteland for gigging. Just a blackhole for money. With Raleigh/CH being right in the middle of the seaboard and surrounded by college towns within a few hours, it seems like gigging would be cheap and easy.

So a few questions:

For those of you who have experience gigging in the area, what are the clubs like? Decent sound systems? What are the entry-level rock clubs?

How receptive are the locals to original music? What about local radio?

What is the talent pool of sidemen like in the area?

Should I focus more CH or Raleigh?
Anyway, I appreciate it. If provides you any incentive, I can give advice on Nashville.

Our sound is a bit similar to Dave Mathews band or Velvet Underground, or James Taylor. (But sometimes a little rougher.) A few of our songs remind me of Rusted Root.

We're looking for a male singer, preferable young - about 25 or less.

Once we start touring, we hope to do it heavily. Please send an e-mail.

We have extended auditions in all fainess to anyone who wants to join a rock band playing 80's to mid 90's hard rock/big hair glam rock songs. We are NUCLEAR PHOENIX, reborn from the ashes of other bands, true to the legend of the PHOENIX, the bird of fire of mythology, but the band is no myth, its the real deal made up of guys that love getting together to play this genre of music. Our practices are sober, they are clean, they are fun, and they are working that way. No clouded minds, no loss of coordination, no arguments, no drama, just a solid good time learning new songs, practicing the known ones, just flat out conscious rock. This band is new....with the new concept that you don't have to get drunk or stoned or doped up to pump out hard hitting rock. The band is two months old but the members have a few years under their belt playing and are gelling well. We are from our late 30's to mid 40's, clean cut and determined to become the very best band that we can possibly be. Our set list is numerous and we are working on it. We need a lead vocalist to complete the band, be it male or female, it makes no difference to us as long as the person can sing the songs, come to and remain at practice sober (no drinking), possess the energy to front a band, and be ready to have the best time with the music that they can imagine. Our goal is to get it right, the way we do it, and start playing out soon. If you are outgoing, if you like the rock from the 80's to the 90's, if you like the glam bands and big hair bands of that era, if you like hard rock, if you like high energy songs, if you like that good old big guitar sound.....good thumping drum beat, rock, rock, rock......then this band is for you but you have got to audition so that we can see if you are just that....and that is what it takes to become part of the newest 80's-90's cover band in this area, what it takes to become a member of NUCLEAR PHOENIX. If you want to audition for the lead vocalist spot, e-mail me with a contact number and I will be in touch. Thanks!!!!!

I am a professional performing and recording pianist available for weddings, events, session work, background music, etc. I have a Bachelor of Music in piano performance from UNC Chapel Hill and I have years of experience playing live and in the studio. I play everything from classical to jazz, standards and pop. I own a Yamaha Motif which is a portable electric keyboard that is an industry standard, state-of-the-art instrument which was designed specifically to emulate the sound of an acoustic piano. So if your event requires piano but you can not provide one - I can easily use mine!

I am cooperative, communicative, punctual and professional. I have respect for myself as well as for my clients and their needs. I understand the role of an entertainer and background musician.

Please contact me for more information, samples of my playing and references. Thank you
